SECOND LANGUAGE choose from: FRENCH, SPANISH, GERMAN
THIRD LANGUAGE choose from: CHINESE, RUSSIAN, JAPANESE, ARABIC, KOREAN, UKRAINIAN

All three foreign languages are included in the curriculum, meaning no additional tuition fees are required to study three languages.

Additional curricular and/or elective languages may be activated upon request, provided that a sufficient number of students apply.

Language Proficiency

Language courses at SSML Nelson Mandela follow the proficiency levels established by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), both for entry and expected graduation outcomes.

For the Chinese language, the reference framework is the HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi), the official Chinese language certification developed by Hanban, aligned with CEFR levels.

For the Russian language, the reference framework is the TORFL (Test of Russian as a Foreign Language), mapped against the equivalent CEFR levels.

For the Japanese language, the reference framework is the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test – Nihongo Nōryoku Shiken).

For the Arabic language, no universally recognised international proficiency framework exists; therefore, the CEFR is used as the reference standard.
