SSML Nelson Mandela was established by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR) through Ministerial Decree no. 1928 of 07/08/2015 (Official Gazette of 20/08/2015) for the Matera campus and through Ministerial Decree no. 727 of 10/06/2025 (Official Gazette of 20/06/2025) for the Taranto campus.
SSML Nelson Mandela offers the three-year Degree Programme in Linguistic Mediation (Class L-12), whose qualification is legally recognised in Italy and abroad.
Our mission is to train professional interpreters and translators capable of operating in national and international contexts.
Students acquire advanced linguistic skills in three foreign languages, chosen among English, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Japanese, and Chinese, in addition to Italian. Teaching is strongly practice-oriented and focused on professional development, with translation and interpreting workshops, including interpreting booth practice, and activities supported by native-speaking lecturers and industry professionals.
The SSML Nelson Mandela Campus includes classrooms, a library, study areas, a simultaneous interpreting laboratory, advanced educational technologies, and a large outdoor area dedicated to students. It is an environment designed to encourage learning, interaction, and personal and professional growth.
The educational pathway combines theory and practice through curricular internships, educational projects, Erasmus+ experiences, and career guidance initiatives, including the Career Day, which promotes dialogue with companies, organisations, and institutions.
Graduates in Linguistic Mediation (L-12) can work in a wide range of professional fields, including medical, economic, legal, publishing, tourism, audiovisual, marketing, and fashion sectors, or continue their studies through specialised degrees and postgraduate programmes.
Consistent with its mission, SSML Nelson Mandela trains language mediation professionals with advanced skills that can be immediately applied in national and international professional environments.
